Drifting Versus Design
On living with direction
Drifting rarely feels like drifting in the moment. It can look like being responsible, responding quickly, handling what is in front of you, staying available, and trying to adapt.
That is what makes it so easy to miss.
Most people do not wake up and decide to live without direction. They simply begin reacting to what is urgent, expected, or immediately in front of them. Over time, those reactions form patterns, and those patterns begin to form a life.
"That is how drifting happens: not all at once, but gradually."
A decision is delayed. A responsibility is taken on without considering the cost. An opportunity is accepted without reflection. A boundary is ignored. A habit is postponed.
None of these choices seems significant on its own. Many of them even appear reasonable. But when they are repeated without intention, they begin moving a person farther from alignment — even while everything on the surface still appears functional.

Design is Different.
Design requires intention. It requires a person to pause long enough to consider not only what they are doing, but why they are doing it and where it is leading.
A designer does not wait to see what happens. A designer decides what matters and begins building accordingly.

When I Knew I Was
Out of Place
On alignment and the cost of staying
There is a difference between being capable in a space and being called to remain in it.
For a long time, I was both.
I had built a career that, by most standards, looked stable and successful. I understood the work. I showed up consistently. I carried responsibility well. From the outside, nothing appeared out of place.
But internally, something had begun to shift.
"Am I still in alignment — or am I simply continuing because this is familiar?"
That question is not easy to sit with, because once you ask it honestly, you begin to see differently. You begin to recognize where you have been operating out of habit instead of intention.

The Most Intentional
Decision.
Many people stay in spaces they have outgrown — not because they lack awareness, but because they are unsure what to do with what they know. They sense that something has shifted, but they hesitate.
They wait for clarity to become certainty. They wait for the next step to feel obvious.
"Sometimes, the most intentional decision you can make is to stop continuing."
For me, that meant paying attention to what I was being drawn toward, not just what I was leaving behind. It meant recognizing that the skills I had developed were not wasted — they were transferable. They were part of the preparation, not the destination.
Clarity rarely arrives all at once. More often, it deepens as you begin to act on what you already understand.
